Certified Parkinsons Therapy

Physical Therapy for Parkinsons - start now!

The latest Parkinsons therapy research shows the benefits of beginning an exercise program as soon as possible. Unfortunately, Parkinsons patients don't often get this advice from their physicians. This is because medications can be effective therapy for Parkinsons sufferers early in the diagnosis. Medications can reduce many symptoms and delay a patient's awareness of their need for physical therapy. Recent studies, however, support the benefits of quickly seeking education and Parkinsons therapy options, including physical therapy.

Don't delay your Parkinsons therapy

The time of diagnosis is the time that patients should begin to research and adopt the lifestyle changes and therapy for Parkinsons disease. The knowledgeable staff at The Recovery Project can help you, at every stage. We can provide you with the education you need, as well as discuss traditional and alternative treatment options. We’ll design an exercise and wellness program that includes physical and occupational therapy for Parkinsons patients.

Early Parkinsons therapy can have the most impact on quality of life.

Parkinsons therapy experts: LSVT® BIG

LSVT BIG is a form of Parkinsons therapy that is offered by the certified physical therapists at Recovery Center. Developed specifically to address the unique movement impairments for people with Parkinson disease, the protocol is both intensive and complex, with many repetitions of core movements that are used in daily living.

Recovery Project therapists who are certified clinicians in the practice of LSVT BIG include Polly Swingle, Cammie Adkins, Heather Whiteman, Gwen Dani and Meghan Malley. These certified LSVT therapy providers assist Recovery Project patients who have Parkinson's disease (PD) by working with them to help maintain or regain function in their workplace or home environment. This Parkinsons therapy can significantly enhance self-confidence and the quality of life for both patients and families dealing with this devastating disease.

LSVT® BIG Therapy for Parkinsons Disease

In recent studies, the principles of LSVT BIG were applied to limb movement in people with Parkinsons Disease (PD). The findings have been documented to be effective in the short term. Specifically, the Parkinsons therapy increased the amplitude of limb and body movement (Bigness) in people with PD. This has resulted in documented improvements in amplitude (trunk rotation/gait) that generalized to improved speed (upper/lower limbs), balance, and quality of life. In addition, people were able to maintain these improvements when challenged with a dual task.
